Ron Holland is a heavily controversial player in draft circles. Some people like him as high as Top-Five, and others see him as a late lottery guy. So what makes his potential so back and forth?

What I Like
Holland's athleticism is some of the best in the class. He uses that to get to the rim in a hurry, and can finish over or around defenders. He finishes at the rim at an elite rate. This, combined with his high motor, pave the way for a bright defensive future. Like everything with Holland, his athleticism allows him to be a great defender. Ron Holland's size and athletic profile is everything NBA teams want in a modern wing.
What I Don't Like
If Holland shot the three at a competent level, he would be the number one pick in the draft. However, he does not. Even though the output was not there, I do like his shooting mechanics. If he lands in the right system, I think Holland can become enough of a threat from the perimeter. In the half court, Holland relies on his athleticism a little too much for my liking, and it leads to turnovers. His motor also switches on and off, and he can sometimes become disinterested or lazy in off-ball defense.
Pro Comparison
Holland's game does not remind me of a certain player, but I've seen him being comped to Tari Eason. Like Eason, I think Holland will be able to lean on his defense and athleticism early in his career before he develops a more refined offensive skillset.
Conclusion
Ron Holland's athleticism makes him worth taking a shot at in the lottery. I like his upside offensively, but he will definitely need a shooting jump to become a consistent scorer at the next level.
