Week three of college football was relatively quiet. The individual performances were not quiet though. We have a new name atop of the Heisman Ladder this week. Welcome to the Heisman Ladder, the top five players in contention for the Heisman trophy. You can find all of our Heisman Ladder updates here:

1. Michael Penix Jr.

It was time to give Michael Penix his respect. Penix Jr. has been SLINGING the rock for UW this year. Boise State is a solid team, but dismantling a Power Five team 41-7 makes a lot of people take this Huskies team seriously. Receivers Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan have dominated defenses through three games. A hyper-efficient night that resulted in 473 yards and four touchdowns vaults Penix to the top of the Heisman Ladder.

2. Caleb Williams

The domination of Stanford is nice, but it led to Williams being pulled before the game was over. Caleb was not able to put up his usual stat line, causing him to drop a spot. Williams will be fine, as USC has multiple big games coming up. Caleb and Co. play Heisman candidates Penix, Shadeur Sanders, and Bo Nix later this year. Williams will have plenty of opportunities to put himself back atop the Ladder.

3. Shadeur Sanders

Shadeur's performance on Saturday has placed him on the Heisman Ladder for the first week this year. The Buffs' mental mistakes put them into a hole late in the game against Colorado State. Shadeur led his squad 98 yards down the field in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter. A touchdown pass to Jimmy Horn Jr. sent Colorado to OT, where they would later win. Big test for Sanders coming up, as he has to face Oregon in Eugene this weekend.

4. Sam Hartman

Sam Hartman has been as advertised for the Fighting Irish. Hartman has played nearly perfect football in 2023, with 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions. A clash with Ohio State this Saturday could cement Hartman's case for the Heisman. Notre Dame has been excellent this year, but the meat of their schedule is in front of them. The Irish have yet to play Ohio State, USC, and Clemson. We'll see if Hartman can navigate his team through a brutal schedule.

5. Bo Nix

Nix hangs on to the last spot for yet another week. He has done everything needed of him so far. Nix's stats will look nice until they get into the brunt of their schedule, which will tell us if the Ducks are for real. A marquee performance against Deion's Colorado could put him on this list for a while. For now, 838 yards and 8 touchdowns keeps him on the Ladder.
