One of the more highly anticipated tournaments of the year is taking place this weekend across the pond in North Berwick, Scotland, with the Genesis Scottish Open taking place. This tournament is being played at the Renaissance Club. This is not a history rich course by any means as it was initially opened in 2008, but the course is hoping to flex its muscles this week by challenging players in a links golf style course. Xander Schauffele is the reigning champion and he hopes to defend his title in another one of the more star studded fields of the year. All of the big names on the PGA Tour will be playing with people like; Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas. These links style tournaments tend to be interesting primarily because of the different challenge that it creates; being able to control your ball in the wind. Many links courses including the Renaissance Club are generally set along water and on flat land. This is the perfect recipe for wind to rip across the course and cause errant shots. This is going to force players to keep their shots much lower so they can minimize the affect or try and control the flight with the wind. For what seems to be something I say every tournament, Scottie Scheffler opens up as the favorite at 7-1 being followed by Rory (17-2), Cantlay (14-2), and Schauffele (14-1). Min Woo Lee is a player who has been creeping closer and closer to his first career victory with 3 top 10 finishes this year. He is a player that has been growing on me every single week, and I think this week could finally be the week he pulls ahead and wins one.
