Torrey Pines South Course, one of the more notable courses in the world and arguably the best public golf course in the country, plays host to the Farmers’ Insurance Open once again. The course has played host to this tournament since 1968 as well as hosting 2 U.S Opens. One being in 2008 and the other in 2021.
The field for this week is relatively loaded with 8 of the top 20 in the OWGR in the field. Xander Schauffele opens up as the favorite at +900 followed by Colin Morikawa (+1100). Patrick Cantlay (+1100), and Max Homa (+1200) bring up the rest of the favorites. Max Homa comes back as the reigning champion and I strongly believe this is his tournament to lose. Being from southern California, Homa has a lot of experience on courses like Torrey Pines. Players with distance will have the advantage this week with the course being set at 7800 yards. Torrey Pines is the longest course in the entirety of the PGA Tour. That point opens up my next pick in Min Woo Lee. Lee is a pretty young golfer who has one of the longest driving averages on tour. I think he has great value at +2200. Lee has become a fan favorite for many, especially the younger generation, with his likable personality and TikTok edits.
Nick Dunlap withdrew from the tournament following getting an exemption from winning the American Express Championship. Dunlap was the first amateur since Phil Mickelson in 1991 to win a PGA tournament as an amateur. Dunlap will not see a single penny from this win unfortunately as he has decided to not turn pro immediately. Dunlap decided return to the University of Alabama to continue his collegiate career.
